i was sick this week and was unable to attend the workshop but i read the study guides and am enthusiastic about excel. I have made a simple spreadsheet on excel using a gradebook model. i will be able to access this next workshop and go through details and fix up the problems with it.

this will be such a valuable resourse to know how to use in my teaching career as i will be able to use it to record students progress throughout the term and potentially the whole year. cant wait to put it into use!!

Portfolio item 4Here is my autobiography. It breifly outlines a little bit about myself and then continues with my goals and ambitions. It also gives insight into why i decided to be a teacher and my inspirations. I had a lot of fun putting this together because i could play with the colours and practically do it how i wanted. :)

WEB QUESTS

FREAKY FROGS

48.5/50!

Freaky frogs was an excellent web quest. There was plenty of colour and excitement and it especially followed the rubrics guide. There were few areas that needed improvement and those were the mechanical aspect of the quest as some of the links did not send you to the right site. The other problem with Freaky frogs is the scaffolding process as some of the instructions may seem a little unclear, however there was little to fault and the scaffolding was still good, just not excellent.

On the other hand the rest of the web quest was wonderful. The introduction was very engaging which captures the students’ attention and made them want to be involved. It made them feel like they could actually make a difference. The task was laid out very simply with 3 easy to follow steps and the process was quite good except for some of the scaffolding. The resources were great with sites all helping to extend the students knowledge of freaky frogs. The evaluation page had a rubric which described what the teacher wanted and showed the students what they had to do. The conclusion was a good source of closure on the topic. It concludes that the students have helped out the situation and makes them feel like they have done something really meaningful.

In conclusion it was an excellent Web Quest.

SAVE THE ANIMALS

42/50

This web quests overall visual appeal was very poor. After looking at the rubric I gave it a 1 out of 4 because of its lack of versatility, colour and engaging pictures. The introduction doesn’t have a way of involving the students and getting them to want to help out. The task was clear which described what the students were to complete. The only problem with the task is that the cognitive level was slightly low. It lacked the power to engage students and make them work beyond their capacity. The only other problem was the resources as they were not fully comprehensive and some were not particularly useful.

On the other hand the evaluation was great as the rubric was very detailed and let the children know what is expected of them. The conclusion was also very good as it finalized the process and gave the task closure.

In conclusion SAVE THE ANIMALS web quest was good but defiantly not excellent at engaging students.
